SOC 350I - Modern China, 3 credit hours This course provides an introduction to Chinese culture, its people, and evolving political, social and business practices. We will explore the complex processes causing rapid change and the pressing problems Chinese people face. Issues to be addressed will include rapid economic growth and development, environmental challenges, the hegemonic role of the government, and China’s emergent role in the global community. The focus is primarily on the contemporary Chinese society, but references to other countries, particularly the United States, will be made where appropriate.
