BUS 801 - Applied Ethics in Health Care Management, 3 credit hours There are three dominant, often competing, approaches to ethics in the Western intellectual tradition - virtue ethics, focusing on character; utilitarian ethics, seeking the best possible ends; and duty ethics, establishing moral obligations. All three approaches are woven into the culture of organizing, providing, and paying for health care. This course focuses on honing the skills needed to lead and make decisions about the complex moral problems confronting health care organizations - from America’s diverse cultural traditions to the new challenges posed by the science of medicine itself.
