ART 240 - Graphic Design I, 2 credit hours In this studio course, the first in a sequence of graphic design courses, students will generate independent creative solutions to a series of real-world design problems that answer the question: “How do graphic designers create compelling print layouts that effectively communicate to their target audience?” Students learn to apply design fundamentals, principles, and elements to create informative and persuasive print layouts. In addition to the graphic terms and techniques learned, students will expand their knowledge in other design processes, including brainstorming, conceptualizing, critical thinking, industry-standard software (Adobe Creative Cloud), mockups, and project presentations.
Students must provide a laptop computer to be used in class and purchase a monthly subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud Software (student discount available, approx. $20/month), specifically Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign. Students pay for various printing costs throughout the semester to mockup projects. Students are responsible for a course supply fee to purchase materials used in this course. The materials will be used in subsequent studio design courses in the major and minor.
