It has sparked revolution, swayed the mighty, and gave life to myth. Theatre history opens a window into civilizations, illuminating their aspirations, fears, and values. This initial course in a two-semester series provides a comprehensive overview of the dramatic arts, tracing their origins from oral traditions to the grand stages of monarchs, spanning continents and cultures revealing their lasting influence on today’s performances. This course provides students with instruction in techniques of deep analytical reading.
