EDU 557 - Special Methods in Secondary Mathematics, 5 credit hours Students will study methods and materials applicable to teaching mathematics to adolescents and young adults in grades 7-12. A problem solving approach will be emphasized, centered about the Eight Mathematical Practices of the Common Core. Course will examine mathematics teaching based upon research concerning how adolescents/young adults learn, best practices as modeled through a developmental (constructivist) approach, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Standards, the Mathematical Association of America (through the National Research Council), and the Ohio Academic Content Standards for mathematics.
