HIS 400 - Advanced Historical Research and Writing, 1 credit hour Prerequisite(s): ENG 131 and one 200 or 300-level HIS course in the student’s declared area of concentration. Students will prepare and revise a research paper of at least 5,000 words related to the content of a 200- or 300-level course taken in a previous semester. The workshop entails pre-writing activities such as developing a thesis, bibliography, and outline; meeting weekly with the supervising instructor to discuss detailed feedback on research methods, thesis-driven and evidence-based argumentation, writing, and Chicago-style documentation; and preparing multiple drafts. The finished product may be used for presentation at professional conferences or Ovation or as a writing sample for graduate school applications.
