POL 316 - Terrorism and Political Violence, 3 credit hours Prerequisite(s): Students must be at least sophomore standing. Existing coursework in the social sciences is recommended. The course focuses on the dynamics of terrorism and political violence more generally. The course covers a brief history of terrorism but focuses more on contemporary international and domestic terrorism and similar forms of political violence. Instead of a textbook students will engage with the latest academic and practice-focused writings that explain political violence across different contexts—for example: in democracies, in dictatorships, during civil wars. Throughout the semester students will conduct original research using terrorism databases.
