ART 104 - History of Visual Communication Design, 3 credit hours The History of Visual Communication Design (formerly referred to as Graphic Design) provides a comprehensive overview of the genesis of “mass media” with the invention of the printing press, through the Industrial Revolution with specific movements in Europe and Asia. The course will chronicle innovations in style, technique, and intent, well into the contemporary era, with the implementation of digitally driven applications. Art never unfolds in a vacuum; the cultural contexts and roles of Visual Communication through the eras will be a significant component of course content.
