ACC 245 - Bloomberg & Excel Certifications, 3 credit hours

Prerequisite(s): MTH 120 /121  or higher.
This course prepares students to use Bloomberg and Excel effectively for economics and financial analysis. The course has three distinct components: (1) Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) certification, (2) Excel training with real-world data , and (3) a final project integrating concepts and tools from both platforms. Students will gain both conceptual and practical experience working with accounting, economics and financial datasets. The Excel component focuses on building proficiency in functions, formulas, visualization, dashboards, and introductory automation. Assignments are designed around real-world examples drawn from economics and finance, such as macroeconomic indicators, interest rates, equity markets, and inflation data. Students will gain hands-on experience with the Bloomberg Terminal, learning to extract and interpret economic and market data using Bloomberg functions (e.g. BDH, BDP). In doing so, they will develop critical skills in data handling and analysis, while becoming familiar with one of the most widely used platforms in finance and economics research.
