SOC 260 - Death and Dying, 3 credit hours The principal purpose of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to study death in modern society. Course objectives include: applying the sociological perspective to understanding death and dying in modern U.S. society; learning how grief is a life-long human dilemma and will study models of grief and bereavement adaptation; developing an interdisciplinary understanding of the complex nature of death in our modern healthcare system and global societies. Students will be challenged to understand the difficult ethical and moral end-of life medical decisions confronting the terminally ill, their families and health care professionals.
