History Concentrations


History majors may choose to specialize in one or more historical subfields among the Department’s particular strengths – American, British/West European, Middle Eastern/Islamic, Military, Asian, or Russian History– or in a thematic area that crosses these geographical boundaries, by taking at least four relevant upper-division courses. It is not mandatory to choose a concentration, and students may choose to complete multiple concentrations. For all concentrations, HIS 260(I,D)  and HIS 360(I) : Topics in History; HIS 463(I)  Seminar in History; HIS 491 ,492 : Departmental Thesis/Project; and transfer courses may be counted where appropriate.
