EDU 393 - Young Children with Medical and Intensive Needs, 3 credit hours Prerequisite(s): EDU 210 & EDU 311 Prerequisite/Corequisite: EDU 378
Focuses on the medical, legal, educational implications of providing educational services for children with health care needs of young children (i.e., birth through fifth grade). Content will explore the etiology of medical/health conditions that educators will encounter and their role as part of an interdisciplinary team. Includes strategies for cross-disciplinary assessment, planning, technology use, and program implementation. Emphasis on collaborating with other professions including such physical, occupational, and speech therapy; psychology; and other health-related fields. Key areas covered include eligibility, free appropriate public education, individualized education programs, placement, LRE, delegable nursing tasks, do not resuscitate, individualized healthcare plans.
